Week 1 - Intro to Cameras + Aperture

The first session consisted of a brief history of photography. From the Pinhole Camera in 1021AD to the digital age we are in now.

The link above is a radio 4 documentary, where Melvyn Bragg discusses the development of photography in the 1830's.

In this session we were taught the basic camera settings, like the use of aperture.
An aperture is a hole/opening through which light travels. We each took out a camera and walked around campus testing the camera and familiarising ourselves with the sue of aperture.

The 2 pictures above I was testing out the aperture therefore even though both pictures are taken in the exact same spot of the exact same thing, one is much darker and one is more exposes this is due to the aperture and how much light the lens took in.

The above picture is extremely over exposed, therefore I would regard it as not a good qaulity photograph.

In the 2 pictures above I tested out the focus, as I tried to focus on the background in the first picture and then the second I focused on the wire butterfly.

With the photos of the bike wheels below I also played around with the focus, so that each photo is a bit different and focuses on different wheel parts.
