Week 11/12 - Editing - Image 3

The first image is the original image and the second is the edited version.

The editing process was the same as the other 3 images. I chose a orangey/yellow tone for the background as I felt this was more mellow and perhaps would reflect on the clothes she's wearing, as unlike the previous ones this is the most 'feminine' or 'girly'.

I decided to crop the image as I thought it made it more striking, as the models gaze was directed at the viewer.

Using the magic wand tool I selected the little bits like between the hair strands and got rid of it so that the yellow back ground was seen through.

Week 11/12 - Editing - Image 2

The 1st image is the original image and the 2nd is the edited version.

TI wanted to edit the image similar to the other one, however I wanted a different colour for the background, something with more red tones. The process of editing this image was similar to the first image. Using the magnetic lasso tool around the model to create a new layer, allowing me to change the original layers colour.

Week 11/12 - Editing - Image 1

The first image is the original image and the 2nd is the edited version.

I wanted to keep the image as natural as possible, however, I did not like the colour of the curtain behind. I decided to play around with the colour balance to see how that changed the image. To do this I first had to use the magnetic lasso tool and outline the models body, once I had all of her selected I copied and pasted it creating a new layer. I then selected the original layer and changed the colour balance. Having a 2nd layer of the model, meant I could change the colour of the background keeping the model the same. With each colour change, I felt it made the image have a completely different feel to it.

I decided I would use the blue tone, as I felt it gave the photo a brighter feel. I also thought the blue tied in with the models quite 'boyish' outfit would make the viewers perceive the model in a certain way. . as blue is a colour mostly associated with boys.

Finally,  I selected the layer of the model and played around with the brightness and contrast to make sure the image was as crisp as it could be.

Week 11 - Final Project Photoshoot Contact Sheets

I organised the contact sheets by separating each model and each outfit they wore and then a contact sheet for each set of group photos. This meant I ended up with 20 contact sheets.

I've marked the pictures I definitely would not be using with a red x on the top right corner of the picture. I felt some of these pictures were unusable because either the lighting was not right or the model was blinking. Some of the pictures I captured had blur as I did it on a slower shutter speed + the model would be moving, I did not mark these pictures as unusable as I thought they seemed quite interesting and with the use of photoshop or even databending I might be able to produce a photo with a different meaning that I did not originally intend on.

Below are the contact sheets.

Week 10 - Photoshoot

This week i booked out the studio and asked four people whether they would model for me.

Once that was done, with the four of them we tried to come up with four outfits we thought represented different females from the ages 16-20.

Below is a picture I took on my phone of the four models and the four different outfits.

I felt the four outfits represented different different personalities but all four were outfits of the female youth from 16-20 in this year 2017.

Below are some pictures of me working in the studio.

I decided to use the camera handheld instead of on a tripod, to create a more personal setting and for me to be able to change the focus as the models were posing.

Week 10 - Idea Change

My original idea was to get different groups of people and show representation of youth through fashion.

However as I started to research models and the different representations of youth through fashion I thought it might be more interesting to have a select few models and get them to swap clothes, seeing who that reflects on how someone views them.

Week 9 - Ubiquitous photography & web 3.0

This week we learnt about ubiquitous photography & web 3.0 services.

Ubiquous - present, something that appears and is found everywhere.

Web 3.0 is a collaboration of web services and day to day life, that has been put online and can be used by others.

Joachim Schmid, a Berlin based artist who worked with photographs that he found.

In the 2 pictures above he has taken two different photos and created a new photo.

Week 9 - Alessio Bolzoni Inspiration

Alessio Bolzoni, is a fashion photographer based in Paris. His work has been featured ine ditorial maagazines such as Dazed and Confused

 http://alessiobolzoni.com/

I find his photos interesting as he positions the models in strange ways giving the viewer a sense of distortion. he also plays with shadows and colour which brings out the subject of the image.

Week 9 - Arnaud Pyvka Inspiration

Arnaud Pyvka, born in France. He has taken photographs for advertising companes for Celine, levi's, joe's jeans etc.

Website that showcases his work - http://www.wschupfer.com/photographers/arnaud-pyvka/overview

I find these photos interesting as they are bright in colour and play with shadows and reflection. I also like how he uses the rule of thirds in regard to the subject of the photo. As the subject is not always in the centre of the image but is the central focus.

Week 9 - Sebastian Kim Inspiration

Sebastian Kim, norn in Vietnam and raised in Iran, Southern California and Paris. His work was first published when he was 16. Started his career by assisting photographers like Richard Avedon and Steven Meisal.

A fashion photographer who often does editorials for magazines such as i-D  GQ Style and does campaigns for designers such as Calvin Klein, Alexander Wang etc.

Editorial photography as the photographs taken for magazines and particular advertisements.

Below are some of his photographs that captured my attention and I find visually interesting :

He is a photographer who mainly photographs for fashion magazines. This particular photograph is mainly for the purpose of the model Gertrud Hegelund and was taken for Numéro Magazine which is an international fashion magazine that covers international fashion, beauty,  as well as spreads on trendsetting celebrities. The colour palette of this photograph captures ones attention as it uses warm fiery colours of red and pink. The style of the photograph is quite similar to Yell Saccani's work as the both use the blur style.

Week 8 - Circulation & Authorship of the photo image

This week we learnt about circulation & authorship of the photo image.

Authorship - is the ownership of an image.
Circulation - is the process of sharing images.

Circulation of images have changed through out the years. Previously they were shared through photo albums however now in the digital age, photos are shared through the internet and social media.

Authorship has now become a debatable topic. With the internet anyone has access to images and is able to share them.

Richard Hamilton, is considered the father of pop art. His work consists of cutting and putting together pieces of photos and paintings. The photos he uses aren’t his and don’t belong to him  but as he places it his way he creates his piece of art having authorship of the final image.

Below is the presentation.

Week 12 - Web Gallery
